2034 (Continued)

Chapter 2: Strangers

Libra figured out how to communicate with her dragon without speaking, telepathy she thought. The strange thing was the rock glowed whenever she reached out to her, what was this rock? She didn’t know, even as she contacted Aquai to push the boat so the trip would be shorter for them, it glowed an eerie dark green and white in her pocket. She made this dress before she left the raided safe house, and she absolutely loved the fabric and how she made it. Taurus sucked in a breath of alarm and said, “We are nearing a boat, cover yourself. It might be someone other than Capricorn and Gemni.” She grabbed a blanket and covered her whole body, holding her breath when she heard Taurus say,
“Pardon, what are you doing out at this time of night?” He made his voice lower.
“Delivering flour,” Came the answer, “Why are you here?”
“Fruit, to the bay over there.” Taurus said, pointing to the quickly appearing island. The dark figure leaned into the boat, curious. “Fruit?” The stranger asked.
“Yes, more of mangoes though. They are my favorite.” Taurus replied, trying to get a better view of his face. “Taurus?” The voice grew softer.
“Capricorn? Gemni?” Taurus asked curiously.
“Taurus! I’ve never been so relieved to see you guys!” Gemni threw the blanket off of herself, hugging Libra who did the same. Capricorn and Taurus fist bumped, relieved to see each other.
“So, how far again?” Gemni asked.
“We load up here and start off to the next island. It’s a half an hour away.” Taurus stated. He planned where they would go; he said there was a safe house there with low surveillance. Libra doubted there was a safe house there; in fact, it might as well be the heart of the government! She didn’t know. Her dragon touched her mind with hers, thinking what she was thinking.
:So, do you want me to check it out? You felt distressed, so I wanted to help.:
:Sure Aquai, but don’t get caught. And be careful!: Libra called after Aquai as she zoomed off in the air. “Hey, Libra. Talking to your partner?” Capricorn asked.
“Yeah, you?”
“Not yet.” He said. She turned towards Taurus and nodded. They were closer to land, and they needed every bit of their little team of eight to outwit and outrun intelligent people connected with the government. The government had very strong links with smart people, eight was always better than one. They docked cautiously, nothing that there was nobody near the bay. Maybe if they walked further inland, they would find shops and vendors surrounded by people. Taurus tied the boats to the posts holding the docks up and walked into the abandoned city. Everyone contacted their dragons, telling them to stay close and aware of traps. Gemni knew something was wrong, she just knew it. She hoped it wasn’t another Government owned island that was used to catch people for slaves or experiments. As they walked, she saw a few people come out of a bar and she saw something out of the corner of her eye and heard Scorpio, her dragon, shout telepathically, :Watch out!: something knocked her to the cobblestone before she could even blink. She struggled to her feet, only to be knocked down again.
:Calm down! It’s us! Your dragons!: In that moment, she realized everyone was on the ground with their invisiblized dragons on top of them, guarding them from something. :What’s going on? Why are you guys on us?: Gemni noted she could hear the conversation between all the dragons and companions. Huh, another power was granted! The dragons got off of them and hovered. :Fire blast. Would have roasted you to ashes if it weren’t for our fireproof skin!: And there was that too. Indivisibility and fireproof skin. She loved bragging about it too, along with her gift of setting herself on fire and surviving. So annoying, but so helpful at the same time.
:Why would a fire blast be set off in the middle of a town?: As they got up, they saw dozens of people milling about. Some were staring at the strangers. Taurus looked where the source of fire came from, and saw a welder with a burned tool in front of him. “Are you okay?” The welder asked, helping them up, distraught.
“Yes, we’re fine, thanks.” Capricorn said; oh thank heavens the dragons were invisible and transparent to anyone who looked their way! All they would feel was a gust of wind if they took to the skies. A boy shoved Libra, shouting “What are you doing? Standing in the middle of the sidewalk! Watch where you’re going!” She turned angrily to retort something back at him, but he was gone. Libra had a sudden thought and checked her pockets, her right pocket still had her money in it and the left pocket- oh no! He stole the rock! She tapped Taurus on the shoulder and said, “Taurus, he stole my stone! I’m going after him! Meet you at the dock in ten minutes!” Then she took off after him, she would catch up to him because she ran a lot on Jadeblade, in fact, she ran the whole island in one day. No doubt she would catch him. Taurus saw her sprint after the thief, full speed. He couldn’t help thinking, was her rock that important to her?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Libra raced into the town square, she saw a pair of newlyweds walk past him he bumped between their clasped hands, turning and stealing anything that was in their pockets.
“Oops! Sorry! Clumsy person coming through!” Then he took off to the next corner, happy to score someone so rich. Libra barely managed to restrain herself from punching him in the throat, grabbing her stone and running. She followed him stiffly, telling herself to pipe down. He opened a burlap sack and sat on the ground, inspecting what he stole.
“Ouuhh, let’s see, a gold watch, coins-” He bit one, excited. “Gold coins! Expensive jewelry and- and,” He twisted and turned something, trying to get a better view. “A rock?!” He incredulously peered at it. “Yes, my rock, thank you very much!” Libra jumped out of her hiding spot, cornering him in the alley that he oh-so-wisely chose, that just happened to have a dead end. He stared at her with big brown eyes and tanned skin, his hair was red. She smiled, knowing what would happen next. She turned a full 360 searching for any hidden cameras before looking back at him, walking slowly towards him, and the dead end.

Chapter 1: Imri Element Snow

“Imri, come here!” A middle aged, blond-headed woman called wearing a sparkly pink t-shirt and black pants.
“Yeah?  I was about to head into town to get some groceries and return a few lost things-” 16 year old Imri was about to drone on when she heard the TV.
“A missing young man came on; I thought that you might want to find your first human instead of non- living useless objects.” The blond woman said, evident that she wanted Imri to have a first date with this boy. Imri blocked her foster mother’s voice out of her mind and focused on studying the TV. Taking her notebook out of her cream colored satchel, she started writing. “Farrid Echo Ferdinand, brown eyes, black hair, 6’1, lived in a foster home before he was kidnapped 24 hours ago by unknown attackers, last seen: Jupiter Island Florida, near Lake Francis.  If you see him call-” Imri grabbed her red shawl and dashed out of the front door, to her red convertible saying, “Thanks Tina!”

Farrid struggled, how did his captor know that he was an escape artist? Wrapped in chains, padlocks and coded locks, he was shoved in a small trunk. His captor was not smart enough to take his hidden escape artist tools on the inside of his belt away though, ten minutes passed and he was free of the chains and padlocks wrapped around him, still in the trunk. Farrid listened hard, he could get out easily, but he didn’t want to run into his kidnapper again. “But sir, I have the boy! No, huh? You want who, oh! Yes sir.”  The captor’s voice was obviously upset. Farrid lifted the trunk lid as much as the chains allowed him to and stuck his hands through to pick the locks on the outside, where was he at? It was so dark that he couldn’t see outside of the trunk at all, he felt the nearest chain to pick the closest lock when all of a sudden there was a small crack of light. He was underground! The hard dirt packed walls had vines crawling up them, the floor was concrete. The light got brighter; Farrid squeezed his hands back into the trunk, after picking two locks, and held the lid up a little bit, he left a tiny crack so he could see what was happening.  His captor was wearing blue jeans and a red shirt, he was very muscular, but his purple reddish Mohawk is what stuck out though, and Farrid knew this guy had been following him, he had seen him a few times, hiding in corners or other hiding places. Farrid was being really careful of him, but he had no idea that this guy could be a sharpshooter; he was willing to bet they knew he wouldn’t be taken quietly. A girl about fourteen wearing black clothes and a flashlight busted in the room, clearly mad.
“Hello? You caught the WRONG PERSON! Boss is going to be angry with you! Imri is on the case already! And-” The fourteen year old girl was cut off by the guy,
“HE is on Prince Charming’s side, a relative!” The guy pointed to Farrid’s trunk, blinking at the really bright flashlight. “Besides, we can just keep him in custody in the circle! He can’t swim and besides, she will come to us!” WAIT, how did they know that he was a bad swimmer? He slowly let the lid down, careful to make no noise. How long had they been watching him? He had to get out before they brought him to this circle. Who was this Imri? Why do they want her and me so badly? He formed a plan, he would get out before they took him to the circle, find Imri and warn her about these people... she would need him to escape the circle, since he was an expert lock picker....all of a sudden he felt the trunk lift and heard more voices,
“Come on; let’s take him to the circle.” The man said.
“But I thought Boss wanted to see him before he was put in.” The girl said.
“Yeah, but- ugh!” Farrid felt the box fall and turn upside down, he hit his head on the top of the trunk and the remaining chains left in the trunk hit him viciously. He HAD to get out NOW! Farrid opened the trunk lid and picked the remaining locks after it had turned right side up, then busted out of the cramped trunk. The fourteen year old had the man in a corner on his shoulders, back to Farrid. Choking, Farrid thought, is not a great way to die. As man fell to his knees, Farrid ran because he knew that when she was done, he would be her next victim.

Imri cruised along the highway, into town. She was at least five minutes from Celia’s house to return the same lost emerald necklace from last month, she defiantly knew Celia lost a great deal more of stuff than any other customer she ever had. Imri knew everyone in this town, unless some tourists decided to visit Jupiter Island for a getaway or vacation. She knew this because she was a lifeguard, she had saved many lives and found many lost things to get where she was now, her college would be well paid for and she would lead a wealthy life. A Toyota Avalon zoomed past, breaking her from her thoughts. She looked down at her speedometer, eighty-five MPH; the speed limit was eighty MPH... He was going to get caught and get a speeding ticket by the police! Imri slowed down, she wanted to stay far away from this car. But her hands and feet did the opposite of what she wanted; she sped up, now behind the insane car. She felt an urge to follow it closely; strangely there were no cars or hidden cops on the road. The Avalon turned left off of the highway, with Imri, in her convertible, following. They took another left then a right, Imri had no control of her hands or feet as she pulled up onto a rocky road and drove two more miles. Imri stopped shortly after the Avalon pulled over; she put her convertible in park, got out of her car then walked to the car’s front door. Imri’s brain screamed at her legs to return to her car and drive away, but they wouldn’t listen to her. A person got out of the car with black pants, black leather gloves, black leather jacket, black boots and black hat covering the face so Imri couldn’t tell if it was male or female. That person must be really hot! Imri thought, it’s sunny today. The person cocked its head when she thought this, are you telepathic? Imri thought again. The person just took a step closer, seeming taller and more threatening, and then it breathed on her. Imri shuddered, she didn’t like this person. Who was it, a ghost? The figure touched her forehead and temples gently, what was it doing? Imri thought. She started seeing things fade before her and suddenly the Avalon and the person disappeared, she sat down quickly on the rocky road, feeling faint, and then passed out.

Chapter 2: Road rage and Indiana Jones

Farrid ran for his life, where did they come in?  He was darted and drugged when they got him here, but he regained conciseness when they entered the underground maze, he felt them climb down a ladder, so what.....he should just look for a ladder in the middle of nowhere? Then he saw it, a ladder hidden in the shadows, a crevice where the dim ceiling lights couldn’t reach. Farrid looked behind him; the girl was not far behind. Farrid was a good runner but she was too, then, he had an idea.

My new and unfinished short story.

2034

Chapter 1: The Rendezvous

She slipped into an alleyway, quiet as a mouse. It was midnight and Taurus, her brother, would be waiting for her at the docks. Again, she adjusted her backpack, willing the straps to stay sewed on the backpack. If it did fall, she’d have to leave it, there was no time left, and she was already late. She thought of her brother; shiny golden hair with perfectly straight teeth and blue eyes to top his handsome complexion, she was so lucky to have her brother! She walked faster, knowing that her Hydrophius dragon was hovering high above her, protecting her. She was nearing the end of the alley, noting that an open space stretched before her, it was dead still. She sprinted into the open, knowing that there were traps set for people like her. She wasn’t the “average person,” though; she was trained on Jadeblade, her home island, safely hidden away from the government. She calmly side-stepped a mine and jumped a hidden noose that you were meant to step into and end up hanging upside down. She giggled at the thought of someone just hanging there, swinging around and around. Endlessly dodging and weaving, she made it to the shortcut alley that lead to the dock.
“Taurus?” She whispered his name, nervous.
“Libra?” Came the answer, then she felt his arms embrace her into a tight hug.
“Are the others here?” She asked.
“Yes, they are about halfway out,” He replied, climbing into a small boat.
“Your partner is here, right?” She asked him. He smiled,
“Yes, Leo is watching.” Partner was code for whatever animal you were given at the age of ten to know and love. Taurus pushed the little dinghy away from the dock as soon as Libra climbed in after him, wondering if they were safe for the time being. Taurus knew something was watching them besides Leo and Aquai, he tried to shake the feeling, but it remained.
*************************************************************************************************************
Gemni felt the link between Taurus and Libra grow stronger.
“Capricorn! They are coming, hurry to the rendezvous!” It will be easier to meet on land, she thought.  “I’m trying, Gemni! It’s not like I have water powers! It’d be nice if Libra’s dragon HELPED!” He glared at the water, willing the sail to catch a breeze.
“Aquai is probably helping Libra. And its partner, remember?” She reasoned.
“Yeah, yeah.” He sighed, “I wish we were not being chased.”
“You know that isn't the case, Capricorn.” She scolded, “They are capturing our KIND for their stupid experiments, with our partners.”
“Soon our island will have to be quarantined from the rest of the world.” He sighed, “We will be the ones to get supplies and stuff since we actually paid attention to our training.” There was a stifling silence for a long time before Capricorn broke it.
“You should probably get some rest, Gemni.” He pulled the rope connected to the sail, catching a breeze. The sail slapped fiercely in the wind as Gemni cuddled down into the front of the boat, pulling a nearby blanket to her chin. It was cold tonight. Gemni connected with Taurus and Libra who was not far off, Libra was worried and Taurus felt someone was watching them. She allowed her hand to dig into her dress pocket, feeling the rock; she remembered what the elders said to them before they left the tribe:

“Taurus, Libra, Capricorn, and Gemni. Your group is strong and so, because if that, we want you to take these.” A young girl walked up to the four siblings and dropped a rock in each one's outstretched hand; each one matched their favorite colors. “Use them in a time of need, and use them wisely. Goodbye, our daughters and sons.” Then a young man nodded to the elders, they nodded back. He walked up to the siblings and touched each head, transporting them out of the realm and into a safe house. Two days later, the safe haven was raided. That was the last every one of their group saw their childhood home. Oh, how she missed it! They had a long trip ahead of them; she drifted into a light sleep, dreaming of Jadeblade, her childhood home.
